Richard Glossip, an Oklahoma death row prisoner, has been released on a $500,000 bond after nearly 30 years, awaiting a retrial for a 1997 murder conviction that was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Former Oklahoma death row prisoner Richard Glossip was released from incarceration for the first time in nearly 30 years after posting a $500,000 bond. He awaits retrial for the 1997 killing of motel owner Barry Van Treese, a case that saw him on the brink of execution three separate times, even eating three last meals. Judge Natalie Mai set bond conditions including an electronic monitoring device, travel restrictions to Oklahoma, and prohibitions against contacting witnesses or consuming drugs/alcohol. Glossip's attorney, Donald Knight, expressed hope that supporters would help raise the bail money. The U.S. Supreme Court threw out Glossip's conviction last year, ruling that prosecutors allowed a key witness to give false testimony, violating his right to a fair trial. Despite the overturned conviction, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond announced the state would retry him on a murder charge, but without seeking the death penalty. Glossip's claims of innocence have garnered support from prominent figures like Kim Kardashian and Susan Sarandon, and his case was featured in a documentary. His wife, Lea, expressed gratitude for the court's decision, stating they had been praying for this day.
