Christopher Lloyd, the beloved star of 'Back to the Future,' has unveiled his decades-long struggle with cocaine and alcohol addiction in his new memoir, detailing his initial hook, severe incidents, and eventual path to sobriety.
In his new memoir, 'In My Own Time,' 88-year-old 'Back to the Future' star Christopher Lloyd reveals his extensive battle with cocaine and alcohol addiction spanning many years. He recounts his first 'snort' of cocaine in the 1970s, which led to an immediate and profound dependency, later encompassing alcohol and pot. Despite his struggles, Lloyd asserts he never performed professionally under the influence. He shares a harrowing incident from 1983, following the cancellation of 'Taxi,' where a drunken and high argument led to him punching out windows, resulting in severe injury requiring plasma, surgery, and physical therapy. This event tragically coincided with the death of his 'Taxi' co-star Andy Kaufman in the same hospital. Lloyd eventually entered rehab in 1993, though he experienced relapses before achieving lasting sobriety on April 1 'some years later.' The book also fondly reflects on his iconic role as Dr. Emmett Brown.
