A federal panel is set to hold a final vote on April 2 for President Trump's controversial $400 million White House ballroom project, which has faced overwhelming public opposition following the demolition of the East Wing.

A federal panel, the National Capital Planning Commission, has scheduled a final vote for April 2 on President Donald Trump's plans to construct a 90,000-square-foot ballroom at the White House. The project, estimated to cost $400 million and be privately funded, is slated for the site where the East Wing once stood, which Trump had demolished in October. The panel's decision comes amidst significant public outcry, with over 35,000 written comments submitted, predominantly opposing the plan, and more than 100 people signed up to provide online testimony. Critics argue that the East Wing should not have been demolished before formal review and approval by relevant commissions, though the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts approved the project last month.
