Bombardier shares plummeted after former President Trump threatened to ban the Canadian jet maker from the US market unless it moves manufacturing to America, despite the company's significant existing US operations and investments.

Bombardier stock experienced a significant drop, opening down 6.4% before settling at a 3.7% decrease, after former President Trump issued a strong warning on Truth Social. Trump declared, "NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES!" demanding that the company build its planes in America if it wishes to access the US market, accusing it of treating America like a 'piggybank.' This threat comes despite Bombardier's substantial presence in the US, which includes approximately 3,500 employees, 2,800 suppliers, and over $2.5 billion in annual spending with American companies. The company has been actively expanding its US footprint, opening a component plant in Moorpark, California, in 2025 and acquiring Velocity Maintenance Solutions in February, adding a Delaware maintenance hangar and mobile repair trucks. Its Wichita operation serves as its US headquarters and is home to Bombardier Defense, focusing on special-mission aircraft and customer support, including a significant Pentagon contract for E-11A communications platforms for the Air Force. Following Trump's threat, Bombardier reiterated its commitment to investing in its American operations. US politicians, including Sen. Jerry Moran and Rep. Ron Estes, have pushed back, highlighting Bombardier's economic importance to states like Kansas and its role in national security missions. The broadside against Bombardier is part of an escalating trade dispute between Washington and Ottawa, with Canada recently imposing retaliatory tariffs on US goods.
