Rob Base, one half of the iconic hip-hop duo Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, has died at 59 after a battle with cancer, following the earlier passing of his partner DJ E-Z Rock.
Rob Base, the celebrated rapper and one half of the Harlem hip-hop duo Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, has passed away at the age of 59 after a battle with cancer. This news follows the death of his creative counterpart, Rodney “Skip” Bryce, known as DJ E-Z Rock, who died in 2014 at 46 from complications related to diabetes. The duo, who met as fifth-grade students in Harlem, were inspired by the success of Crash Crew and signed with Profile Records in 1987. Their 1988 hit, “It Takes Two,” became a landmark track, charting on the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Club Songs chart. The platinum-certified song has been sampled by major artists including Snoop Dogg and The Black Eyed Peas and featured in several films. Their subsequent single, “Get on the Dance Floor,” also achieved significant success on the club charts.
