Samsung is discontinuing its Samsung Messages app, urging users to switch to Google Messages for access to advanced AI features like Google Gemini and improved RCS messaging for high-quality photo sharing across Android and iOS devices.
Samsung is officially phasing out its proprietary texting application, Samsung Messages, directing users to transition to Google Messages. This strategic move aims to provide Samsung users with access to cutting-edge features, including Google's latest artificial intelligence capabilities from Gemini. These AI enhancements encompass an experimental 'Remix' feature for generating images directly within conversations and intelligent AI-powered reply suggestions. Furthermore, the shift to Google Messages will enable users to share higher quality photos seamlessly between Android and Apple iOS devices via RCS-enabled messages. While users with older Android operating systems (Android 11 or older) will remain unaffected by this change, owners of Samsung's newest devices, such as the Galaxy 26 lineup, are already unable to download the Samsung Messages app from the Galaxy Store. The company has announced that all devices will lose the ability to download Samsung Messages after its official discontinuation in July, with specific service offline dates to be communicated within the app. Samsung has yet to confirm whether this guidance for Samsung Messages applies uniformly across all global markets.
