Climate activist Greta Thunberg was arrested in central London while supporting pro-Palestinian activists staging a hunger strike, as other protesters targeted an insurance company with red paint.

Greta Thunberg was arrested in central London on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, while participating in a protest supporting pro-Palestinian activists. These activists are on a hunger strike to protest their imprisonment while awaiting trial on charges related to earlier demonstrations. The 22-year-old Swede was seen holding a sign in support of the hunger strikers and their organization, Palestine Action, which the British government banned earlier this year as a terrorist organization. The protest was part of a larger demonstration where two other activists sprayed red paint over the front of Aspen Insurance at Plantation Place in the City of London. Prisoners for Palestine, the protest group, stated that the insurer was targeted due to its support for the Israel-linked defense firm Elbit Systems. City of London police confirmed arrests: a man and a woman for criminal damage, and a third woman (presumably Thunberg, though not named by police) on suspicion of supporting a banned organization. Eight Palestine Action members are on hunger strike, with two having reached a critical 52-day mark. The British government has declined to intervene in the judicial process. Thunberg has a history of civil disobedience, having been acquitted in London in February 2024 for a protest and repeatedly fined in Sweden and the U.K. for similar actions.
