Disney has launched Cotino, its first 'Storyliving by Disney' residential community in Rancho Mirage, Coachella Valley. Offering luxury homes and a unique desert-chic design inspired by Walt Disney himself, it features amenities like a man-made lagoon and an optional Artisan Club with Disney-themed activities, aiming for an 'authentically Palm Springs' feel rather than overt Disney branding.
The Coachella Valley, typically associated with hot desert sun and music festivals, is now home to Disney's first branded residential community, Cotino, part of the 'Storyliving by Disney' initiative. Located in Rancho Mirage, this 618-acre development will feature nearly 2,000 luxury residential units, including single-family homes and condos, with prices ranging from mid-$1 million for a two-bedroom 'Cottage Collection' home to over $3 million for a six-bedroom 'Estate Collection' home. Residents are already moving into these homes, built by luxury developers like Shea Homes, Davidson Communities, and Woodbridge Pacific Group. Cotino's design philosophy emphasizes Walt Disney's personal love for the region's natural beauty and mid-century modern architecture, offering an 'authentically Palm Springs' aesthetic rather than overt Mickey Mouse branding. However, Disney elements are present through the optional Artisan Club, which requires an additional membership fee. The club offers a wellness center, outdoor tennis and pickleball courts, two restaurants, and Disney-themed fitness programs like 'Incredibles Super Circuit' and 'Moana Breathwork.' It also features the Parr House, a clubhouse designed as a life-size replica of the home from Disney’s Incredibles 2. A major draw for many is the 24-acre Cotino Bay, an artificial lagoon utilizing sustainable Crystal Lagoons technology, providing a man-made beach experience in the desert. The community also includes 'Longtable Park,' a senior living area for residents 55 and above, inspired by Walt Disney's personal experiences in the area. While the development has been polarizing for some, prospective residents are drawn to its unique amenities and the potential for increased home value. Future plans include a public town center with shopping and dining, expanding accessibility beyond community residents.
