The 2026 Emmy nominations are out, sparking outrage over major snubs for shows like Stranger Things and Half Man, while celebrating surprising double nominations for Matthew Rhys and the underdog success of Widow's Bay, poised to challenge frontrunner Hacks.

The 2026 Emmy nominations, revealed across 118 categories, have stirred significant controversy and excitement. On the snub front, the author humorously laments 'Survivor's' omission for sound mixing, but more notably, 'Stranger Things' was largely shut out of main categories, a significant blow for Netflix despite its past success. Similarly, 'Half Man,' a prestige drama, received only one acting nod for Richard Gadd, and Jon Hamm surprisingly missed an acting nomination for 'Your Friends and Neighbors' despite the show's best drama nod. Paul Anthony Kelly was also overlooked for 'Love Story: John F Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette,' which otherwise garnered multiple nominations. However, the nominations also brought happy surprises. Matthew Rhys emerged as a standout, securing two nominations for lead roles in different genres: 'The Beast in Me' (limited/anthology) and 'Widow’s Bay' (comedy). The author highly praises Rhys's performance in 'Widow’s Bay,' calling it the best show of the past year and predicting it could win up to 18 Emmys, potentially unseating 'Hacks,' which received a record 24 nominations but is argued to have won previously due to a lack of stronger competition. Other multi-hyphenate nominees include Colman Domingo, Jason Bateman, Martin Short, Laurie Metcalf, and Nick Offerman. Additionally, 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,' a 'Game of Thrones' spin-off, earned a best drama nomination as an underdog. The Emmy awards are scheduled for September, promising an exciting ceremony.
