Epic Games, the publisher of Fortnite, announced the layoff of 1,000 employees, approximately 20% of its workforce, to save money amidst challenging market conditions.

Fortnite publisher Epic Games announced it is laying off 1,000 employees, roughly 20% of its workforce, as a cost-saving measure to combat industry-wide and company-specific challenges. CEO Tim Sweeney noted that while Epic has survived past upheavals, such as the shift from 2D to 3D with Unreal 1, building console games like Gears of War, and moving to online gaming with Paragon and Fortnite, current market conditions are the most extreme since the company's early days. After these layoffs, Epic Games now employs 4,000 people. This marks another significant reduction following 830 job cuts in 2023, which then amounted to about 16% of its workforce.
