The Department of Justice has removed news releases about Jan. 6 criminal cases from its website, labeling them "partisan propaganda," and established a $1.776 billion fund to compensate Trump allies, potentially including convicted rioters, sparking widespread outrage.

The Department of Justice has confirmed the removal of news releases detailing criminal cases related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot from its official website, denouncing the information as "partisan propaganda." This move follows the creation of a $1.776 billion fund aimed at compensating Trump allies who claim unjust investigation and prosecution. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has indicated that convicted Jan. 6 rioters, even those involved in violence, might be eligible for payouts from this fund, a stance that has drawn bipartisan condemnation in Congress. The department's "rapid response" account on X publicly defended the removals, stating, "We are proud to reverse the DOJ’s weaponization under the Biden administration. We will do everything in our power to make whole those who were persecuted for political purposes. This includes stripping DOJ’s website of partisan propaganda." Among the specific cases affected are the seditious conspiracy convictions against members of the far-right extremist groups Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, which the DOJ successfully moved to vacate and subsequently dismiss in federal appeals court.
